Namibia defeated Sri Lanka by 55 runs on Sunday, kicking off the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 with a shock in Geelong.
Ben Shikongo and Bernard Scholtz did the job with the ball in the first World Cup match, after some late huge hitting from Jan Frylinck and JJ Smit enabled Namibia record a competitive total. Sri Lanka started losing wickets from the start of their 164-run chase.
Shikongo and Scholtz both had a hat trick to disrupt the Lankans' batting order. They ultimately made it over 100, which looked impossible at first.
Earlier, Frylinck (44) and Smit (31*) combined for 70 runs for the seventh wicket in less than five overs as Namibia recovered from a shaky start to post 163/7 from 20 overs at Kardinia Park.
Pramod Liyanagamage took two wickets for Sri Lanka, while the other bowlers each took one.
