Iga Swiatek beats Lesia Tsurenko


Iga Swiatek, the world number one, began her French Open campaign with a fast win against Lesia Tsurenko, demonstrating why she is the clear favorite.Swiatek of Poland displayed all of her talent in a 6-2 6-0 triumph on Court Philippe Chatrier in just 54 minutes.

By defeating the Ukrainian, the 20-year-old, who won Roland Garros in 2020, extended her winning streak to 29 matches.However, four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka was defeated in the first round by Amanda Anisimova.

Anisimova, who stopped Osaka's Australian Open title defense in January, triumphed 7-5 6-4.

Anisimova, a semi-finalist in 2019, will next face Donna Vekic of Croatia.

Osaka had struggled with an Achilles ailment in the run-up to the Grand Slam, but her serve let her down the most, with eight double faults.Osaka expressed concern about the reception she might receive upon her return to Paris after withdrawing from last year's event due to mental health issues. Both she and Anisimova were warmly welcomed by the audience on Suzanne Lenglen, with fans rallying behind Osaka as she battled Anisimova.

Osaka's rustiness was particularly noticeable in her serving, with numerous double faults occurring at critical periods to offer Anisimova the initiative.

Osaka was broken on a big double fault at 5-5 in the first set after battling back from an early break down.

Anisimova then won the first set with a near-flawless serve game, winning it in 46 minutes with a forehand winner.

In the second set, the young American battled with additional pressure from Osaka, breaking her on a double fault and then saving three break points in the next game to retain a 5-3 lead.
