I haven't spoken to Messi at all: Laporta

The Barcelona coach also explained that he decided to keep Ronald Koeman

Joan Laporta has stated that he hasn't talked to PSG forward Lionel Messi since the former Barcelona captain left the Blaugrana.

The president of Barcelona said that LaLiga asked the club to sign the CVC agreement in order to give them the go-ahead to extend Messi's contract, which ended on July 1.

"There is objective data available. Everyone can make comparisons. We were told that we had to sign the CVC financing [agreement] or there would be no fair play." There was no room for error. We had made a pre-agreement and had shook hands. There were numerous deals, and LaLiga seemed to accept them before saying no without CVC. We didn't believe the situation would improve, so we ended things.

Even with Antoine Griezmann's departure and the captains' pay cuts, Messi could not have remained. However, it is critical that we have reduced the salary limit so that we may be more ambitious next year.

The Barcelona coach also explained that he decided to keep Ronald Koeman because his football philosophy fits with what the club represent. "I spoke with Koeman, and he has my support, trust and respect, like all coaches. Johan [Cruyff]'s model is non-negotiable, and Koeman's cruyffism is indisputable, but each person adapts to it in their own way."
