Aston Villa have signed Arsenal defender Calum Chambers to a three-and-a-half-year contract. The 27-year-old, who has only appeared five times for Arsenal this season, was out of contract in the summer and joins on a free transfer.
His arrival follows the loan signings of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona, Lucas Digne from Everton for £25 million, and Robin Olsen from Roma.
"It's a massive club in a fantastic period," Chambers said. From the outside, everyone can see that it's a very exciting place to be." Things are happening in this place, and they are definitely moving in the right direction.
"It was a no-brainer for me to join such a fantastic club." "It was the right thing to do."
Chambers had been with Arsenal since 2014, when he joined from Southampton.
He takes over for Axel Tuanzebe, whose loan from Manchester United expired earlier this month to allow him to join Napoli in Italy.
Villa manager Steven Gerrard has also been linked with a move for Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.
Chambers continued, saying: "The manager was a huge success at Rangers. I'm looking forward to working with him because he's a young, exciting manager."
